Harvest has begun!

When I was invited to come and participate in Maryhill’s 2014 harvest, I could not believe my good fortune. The excitement is real but so is the unreal basket of nerves I am feeling at seeing this awe inspiring process now that I have arrived! I am looking forward to learning as much as I can. Thank you Maryhill and Craig and Vicki Leuthold!

But first an intro to the winery!

Maryhill Winery in Goldendale, WA is in the Columbia Valley AVA Washington State. It is the 10th largest winery in Washington State and produces 90,000 cases annually. They were voted the #1 winery of WA State in 2009 and then this year were voted the winery of the year 2014 by the San Francisco International Wine Competition.

Surrounded by vines with the back drop of the Columbia River, one can see for miles in each direction from Maryhill’s outside patio that faces the amphitheater. This amphitheater hosts the annual summer music fest, which this year featured such acts as Styx, Foreigner, Peter Frampton and Buddy Guy. WOW!

And of course the intro would not be complete without the vineyard pets! We

have the resident Giant Pyrenees, Mr. Potter and Leilani, the Maltese/Shitzu. And no vineyard is complete without a cute orange cat to prowl for predators named Valentine.

Both Valentine and Potter have been featured in the vineyard Dog and Cat books respectively and boy do they “lap” up the attention! No pun intended!
